My work is now showing at Toscana Studio and Gallery. It is the perfect place to show my work because it sits right under Pusch Ridge. These days most of my work features this side of the Catalinas, as well as the trails and vistas at the Catalnia State Park, only a few miles from Toscana. It's so nice to be nestled right in the shadow of the mountains that I love.

Taste and See

There are two things that pierce the heart: pain and beauty. When the heat is pierced, God can speak. We've all had those experiences, even if we have to think back to childhood, when beauty has filled us will a sense of awe. I believe those moments are God's invitation to us. Calling us "farther up and further in".

My goal in art is not so much to create that beauty, as to interact with it. It's not this painting of trees that is beautiful, but the trees themselves. I painted it because I wanted to respond to, and participate in that beauty. I wanted to immerse myself in it; to prolong my experience with it. Of course, even the trees themselves point above and beyond themselves.

I go to morning prayers. At the end they sing "No one goes hungry at the table of God. Taste, o taste and see. No one goes hungry at His table of life. Taste, o taste and see."

There are so many subjects and styles and mediums! It's so hard to make up my mind! There is so much that I absolutely love. I used to think I didn't have enough time to spend painting. Now I know that if I painted every waking hour for the rest of my life, there would still be so much more to paint and to learn and to try!

I've started something this summer, and I hope I can keep up with it. I want to paint one 8 by 10 every day (at least every week day).

This is the courtyard where I stay when I'm in Yalalag. The mango tree is beautiful. The cinder blocks in the middle make up a wash basin. I've always liked the mottled shadows and still water in the various containers.

Today I went hiking with some dear friends. In the cool, shady canyon we were greeted with "curtains and fountains" of morning glories. I haven't seen them like that for years as it takes special conditions for them to come out. As it gets cooler I want to plan some serious hikes every Saturday. We'll see if that happens. On my long list of things to paint, I want to do a series of morning glories.
